Buddypress on Ubuntu

Apache 2, MySql, PHP 5..let’s try to set it up.

Apache – could not reliably determine the server name..

=  add “ServerName localhost” (or Servername serverXX) to /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

sudo service apache2 restart

how does it know which directory to serve?

/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default

DocumentRoot /home/username/www
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
</Directory>
<Directory /home/dan/www/>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
allow from all
</Directory>

etc…

MYSQL

mysql -u root -p

create database wordpress;

create user wordpressuser@localhost;

set password for wordpressuser@localhost = PASSWORD(“XXX”);

grant all privileges on wordpress.* to wordpressuser@localhost Identified by ‘password’;

flush privileges;

exit

Link wordpress to this database:

sudo nano www/wp-config.php

alter MySQL settings to link to database name, user and password.

(should this file be restricted to admin read only because it has the password?  what are the ‘SALTS’?)

File Permissions -so Apache can access

chmod -R 755 www

(check with stat -c ‘%a’ /home/username/www)

check php configuration settings -browse to page info.php  = <?php phpinfo(); ?>

BuddyPress

could this be a great way to support our own little communities?

how about a version that works well on mobiles…more to help people coordinate meeting up for real than for sending lots of info for ‘online friendships’.

will have to look at some of the plugins
